Rural Families Project

Strengthening community perinatal health across rural Oregon

New Family Fund has been awarded two projects by the Oregon Health Authority through the Rural Health Transformation Program Catalyst funds. Over the next two years, this funding will strengthen community-based perinatal care for rural Oregon families, from pregnancy through birth, postpartum, infant feeding, and early parenting.

Two projects, one goal ...

Perinatal Health Coalition of Rural Oregon – a statewide network whose mission is to advance community-based strategies for improving perinatal health. The Coalition aims to strengthen collaboration, referral pathways, and equitable access to community-based perinatal health services, and to address emerging challenges facing Oregon’s rural families. Initial priorities are access to perinatal mental health supports and doula services.

Perinatal Health Workforce Program of Rural Oregon – invests directly in the people providing community-based care, including doulas, lactation counselors, community health workers, peer supporters, and other Traditional Health Workers. The program expands access to training, scholarships, stipends, certification support, and mentorship, focusing on reducing financial, geographic, language, and cultural barriers. It also provides ongoing support with Medicaid billing, referral networks, and building sustainable practices.

We believe ...

Every birthing family deserves to have access to one-on-one support that spans pregnancy, birth, and postpartum from someone who is trusted, speaks their language, is culturally congruent, and can help navigate the services and support they need.

Doulas, peer support specialists, community health workers, and other Traditional Health Workers are uniquely positioned to provide this support and deserve access to the education and professional support to make this work sustainable.

We would love to connect!

New Family Fund is excited to partner with other community-based organizations, training organizations, CCO’s, doulas, service providers, and parents to strengthen community-based perinatal health systems in rural Oregon. We recognize that each region and community in rural Oregon has unique strengths and challenges. We aim to align our work with the needs and voices of the communities served.

If you are interested in partnering in this work or in accessing the upcoming professional development opportunities, please fill out this interest form, and we will follow up with you.
